What a SWEET Vacuum!

Monday, February 21st, 2011

In our previous post, you can read a little bit about our annual sales meeting, held last week at The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA.  While the meeting featured informative meetings and company updates, one of the highlights was a CHOCOLATE replica of our popular Nilfisk CFM S3 industrial vacuum cleaner, which a Hershey pastry chef created with meticulous detail. While this blog is largely dedicated to dust, we thought the Hershey vacuum was too cool not to share. Ironically, Hershey has been a long time customer of ours, and our vacuums are used in many of their chocolate/cocoa applications.  Milton Hershey would be proud! And for the record, it was dark chocolate.

Salesman of the Year “Gets the Ax” at Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Most companies award their salesman of the year with an award.  Very few “give them the ax”, but here at Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums, it’s a tradition. Last Thursday, we concluded our annual North American Sales Meeting with a formal dinner and awards ceremony at The Hotel Hershey (Hershey,PA), including the official presentation of the “Order of the Ax.”

Winning the distinguished “Ax” or 2010 Salesman of the Year award was district manager, Jim Brazil, whose territory covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Brazil joined the company in 2005 and has consistently displayed great pride in his job and determination to bring his territory to new heights.  In 2010, Jim did an outstanding job raising awareness amongst manufacturing facilities in his northwest territory about the importance of proper housekeeping and recommending vacuum cleaner solutions to improve worker safety, meet industry regulations and increase productivity. In a very touching acceptance speech, Jim dedicated the award to his late grandmother, a former saleswoman and personal mentor.

Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums’ legendary Salesman of the Year award is known to employees as the “Order of the Ax,” because of the company’s deep ties to Scandinavian traditions. Nilfisk-Advance, parent company of Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums, originated in Denmark in 1906, and today has facilities on 5 continents. The ax represents the simple, yet technologically-advanced tool the Vikings used to conquer unknown lands.

During the awards ceremony, other members of the company’s sales force and back-office staff were also honored with Awards of Excellence and include district manager, Scott Boersma; finance director, Gabe DiGiacomo; and application engineer, Rob Decker.

Meet your LOCAL Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums Rep (California, Nevada)

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Say hello to Rob Millard, our Nilfisk Industrial Vacuums District Manager responsible for solving industrial housekeeping challenges in Northern California and Nevada. Rob joined the Nilfisk team in 2005 and has already helped hundreds of customers develop solid maintenance plans to meet government regulations, keep their workers safe, and ultimately increase productivity.  Rob has many success stories, including the one featured in our video case study on Harris Woolf Almonds. Thanks to Rob, the nut processor invested in a Nilfisk CFM 137 (now the S3) and DRAMATICALLY decreased cleaning time and received Superior Recognition from the American Institute of Baking. Rob also helped another nut processor, Paramount Farms, tackle product loss with a Nilfisk CFM central system that reclaimed pistachios falling off the conveyor lines. Aside from these success stories, one of Rob’s favorite challenges was helping a pomegranate packager separate the bad seeds (no pun intended)  from the perfect seeds. In the California/Nevada area and want to know how Rob can help you? Email him at Rob.Millard@nilfisk.com or call him at (916) 201-6811. Plus, Rob is also running a promotion: Trade in your underachieving shop-style vacuum for an S2 or S3 vacuum cleaner and get a FREE GD10 Back.

Imperial Sugar Marks Third Anniversary of Combustible Dust Tragedy

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Monday marked the third anniversary of the Imperial Sugar combustible dust explosion. According to the company’s website, ImpCourtesy of ISCerial marked the day with a somber memerial ceremony where family members, friends and co-workers placed flowers and candles at memorial markers in Legacy Park located on the grounds of the plant. The focal point of the park is a beautiful bronze sculpture of 14 doves taking flight from upturned hands that Imperial Sugar commissioned to pay tribute to those employees who lost their lives.

Three years after the explosion, Imperial Sugar has completed rebuilding the Port Wentworth refinery, which has become an exemplary model for safety in the industry. The new facility incorporates state-of-the-art technologies – including a modern packaging facility equipped with dustless loading devices, antistatic floors and firewalls, among other safety features.
